Chris McNally named USAT Women’s Committee “Man of the Year”

Dr. Chris McNally, a professor in the Applied Technologies Department, recently was named “Man of the Year” by the USA Triathlon Women’s Committee in recognition of his work to combat the sexual harassment of female athletes.

McNally started IOU–It’s On Us to support women who have been victims of sexual assault or harassment. He shared his motivation to take action:

“I was moved to start IOU–It’s On Us by the courage Alex Bozarjian showed in confronting the man who assaulted her. Many of my female friends have commented on being harassed while exercising. This knowledge and viewing the video of Ms. Bozarjian’s assault made it clear to me that sexual harassment of female athletes is not a women’s issue. It is a men’s issue. Men are the ones who do it. Men are the ones who must stop it. It is my hope that IOU–It’s On Us will encourage us, as men, to hold each other accountable for our actions, and promote the modeling of proper behavior for the boys in our lives.

It is a very grassroots movement; just me wearing pink clothes to attract attention, handing out bracelets and stickers at triathlons and running events, and posting on social media. I don’t ask for or accept donations.

“My only request is that people spread the message of respect to the men and boys in their lives.”
